Inspiration
Students often study alone, with no one to quiz them right when they want to revise. Typing into apps breaks focus. We wanted a study partner you can simply talk to, so we built StudyBuddy+ for Alexa.
What it does
StudyBuddy+ is a voice-first study assistant. You can:
- Say "quiz me" to get Class 10 Science multiple-choice questions, one at a time, with instant feedback and a final score
- Say "revise light" (or another topic) to hear a short spoken summary of key points
How we built it
We built StudyBuddy+ as a custom Alexa skill in Python using the Alexa Skills Kit (ask-sdk-core), hosted on Alexa-hosted Lambda. Intents handle quiz, answers and revision, and quiz progress is kept in session attributes. Responses are kept short so they are easy to follow by ear.
Challenges we ran into
- Designing natural voice conversations instead of a screen-based UI
- Handling answers like "option a" or "first" using slot synonyms
- Building and testing within the hackathon deadline
What we learned
How to design voice-first experiences, structure intents and slots, and deploy an Alexa-hosted skill.
