Inspiration

Millions of students study without reliable internet — spotty connections, limited data plans, or areas without consistent Wi-Fi. Most AI study tools assume you're always online. That mismatch is exactly what StudyBridge addresses: generate a study pack once, then keep it forever, no connection required.

What it does

StudyBridge turns any topic or pasted textbook excerpt into a simplified, offline-ready study pack. A student types a subject or pastes confusing text, picks a grade level and types any language they want, and StudyBridge generates key concepts broken into plain-language bullets, a jargon-free explanation, and 5 self-check questions with answers. The pack can then be printed or saved as a PDF in one click, styled like a tear-off index card meant to be carried and reused without needing to reconnect.

How we built it

React and Vite power the frontend, Node.js/Express acts as a backend proxy to keep the API key secure, and the Claude API generates and structures the study content as JSON. Tailwind CSS handles styling, with a signal-bars motif that visually represents the "no connection needed once downloaded" concept.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing response depth against a fixed token budget — enough detail to be genuinely useful, short enough to generate quickly and print cleanly on one page. Designing a print stylesheet that strips away all UI chrome and leaves just the clean study card was also tricky to get right.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Building a tool that works for any language a student types, not just a fixed dropdown list — because access barriers aren't only about connectivity, they're about language too.

What we learned

How much of "offline access" design comes down to small decisions — print stylesheets, response length budgets, and making sure the interface still makes sense with zero saved history.

What's next for Study_Bridge

Local caching so previously generated packs are viewable fully offline in-browser, a "print all" batch mode for teachers building packs for a whole class, and community-shared packs so students aren't all regenerating the same common topics.
