Inspiration

When we first came into hall, we struggled to find other individuals of the same course/faculty due to a lack of social interaction partly due to cov-19. Thus we wanted to create a platform for residents to make connections to other residents in the same course/faculty. This platform also doubles up as an outlet for those in need of a listening ear to get the attention they require.

What it does

It serves as an online platform for residents to form connections and find other peers from their hall with similar academic background and also serves as an outlet for academic related queries. One Additional feature that we have implemented focuses on mental health and offers an anonymous outlet for users who may need a listening ear to share their thoughts / concerns.

How we built it

We first used Figma to design out site, and then we developed the front-end using react and used Firebase to host out back-end.

Challenges we ran into

working with Firebase was extremely difficult as all of us had little to no back-end experience. In addition, Firebase was updated to v9 recently so most of the resources and tutorials online were outdated. It was also difficult to decide on the design of our website and implement the designs accurately.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Manage to build a working prototype within a very short time span and picked up new technologies such as Figma and Firebase.

What we learned

Sharpened our front-end development skills and also picked up new technologies such as the usage of Material-UI , Figma and Firebase.

What's next for Study Together

carry out a full working implementation of Study Together and pilot testing within our hall to gather feedback and possible improvements. We would also like to implement additional features to Study Together in the future.
