Inspiration
I noticed that most study apps are either too strict and stressful or too plain and boring. As someone who enjoys anime, I wondered if studying could feel more engaging and personal without becoming distracting. That’s how the idea of a “study senpai” came — a character who motivates, guides, and supports you during study sessions.
What it does
Study Senpai is an anime-inspired study companion that helps users stay focused in a calm and enjoyable way. It includes: Mood-based study sessions A Pomodoro focus timer Daily goal tracking and progress visualization A non-toxic streak system Interactive dialogue from a customizable “senpai” character The app blends productivity with emotional support, making studying feel less overwhelming
How we built it
I used MeDo to transform my idea into a working web application using natural language prompts. I iterated on the requirements to improve the user experience, adding features like mood-based personalization, soft start rituals, and end-of-session reflections.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was balancing engagement with focus. Anime elements can easily become distracting, so I had to carefully design the interface to remain minimal and calming while still being visually unique.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
What we learned
I learned how important UX design is in shaping user behavior. Small details like tone of messages, animations, and layout can completely change how a user feels while using an app.
