Inspiration
Students often struggle to understand difficult topics, organize their study schedules, and prepare for exams. We wanted to build a tool that brings these needs together in one place. This inspired us to create StudyPilot, an AI-powered study companion designed to make learning simpler and more organized.
What it does
StudyPilot helps students understand complex topics through AI-generated explanations. It can also generate personalized study plans and quizzes to support revision and practice. Our goal is to help students learn at their own pace and feel more confident about their studies.
How we built it
We built the frontend using React, TypeScript, and Vite, with Python and FastAPI powering the backend. We integrated Google's Gemini AI to generate educational explanations, study plans, and quizzes. We then connected the frontend and backend to bring these features together in one application.
Challenges we ran into
One of our main challenges was connecting the frontend and backend and configuring the AI integration. We also realized that giving an answer is not enough; explanations need to be clear and easy for students to follow. This encouraged us to focus on making StudyPilot more beginner-friendly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have turned our idea into a working application with an AI-powered tutor and study-support features. Connecting the different parts of the application was an important milestone. We are especially proud to be building something that focuses on students' everyday learning challenges.
What we learned
We learned how frontend and backend systems communicate, how to integrate an AI API, and why testing is important. We also learned that educational technology should do more than provide answers—it should help students understand concepts and learn independently.
What's next for Study Pilot
We want to improve the clarity of AI-generated explanations, make study plans more personalized, and expand the quiz and progress-tracking features. In the future, we hope to make StudyPilot a more complete learning companion that adapts to students' needs and supports more effective study habits.
