Study Oppa

Inspiration

As computer science students, Discord is basically our lives. We eat, sleep, and breathe Discord. Ever since quarantine, Discord is where we do everything. From playing games with friends, watching movies to now... studying? We've created a bot to enhance the studying experience for us Discord enthusiasts.

What it does

Our Discord bot has many different functions, such as flashcards, pomodoro, and even figure out when you and your friends are free.

Flashcards

Add, remove flashcards
Have your own settings
Study flashcards lol

Pomodoro

Create a pomodoro timer
Add yourself to be pinged in pomodoro

Calendar

Add your busy days to the calendar

To Do Lists

Add and remove tasks with date/time
Give priority to each task
Create sorted lists

How we built it

We used the python Discord API wrapper, in addition to using various json files to store configurations and data.

Challenges we ran into

This was the first hackathon for many of us, so we had to figure out many things for ourselves. Additionally, many of our ideas were done in the past, so we had to revise extra hard to come up with this one. We hope you'll enjoy seeing our project does!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our team found a good balance between working and planning that worked for all of us. We also got to implement most of the features we set out to do, and we had a lot of fun figuring out the problems along the way.

What we learned

We learned much about reading documentation, especially discord.py. We also learned how to use GitHub as a team. Despite this, there's so many things out there left to learn!

What's next for Study Oppa

Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to implement all of the features we wanted to. The first step after this hackathon will be to finish the calendar function completely. Then, we will add a few other features that we came up during brainstorming, but don't have the knowledge of how to do yet.
