Inspiration

Students don’t avoid study groups because they don’t exist — they avoid them because of scheduling conflicts, poor coordination, and social discomfort. We wanted to build something that makes it easy not just to find a study group, but to feel comfortable joining one.

What it does

Study Hub is a platform where students can create and join study sessions and events. It uses smart scheduling, availability matching, and social confidence insights to help users find the right group at the right time with the right people. Features include waitlists with email notifications, AI-generated schedules, and a confidence meter based on group dynamics.

How we built it

We built the frontend and logic using Lovable, with Supabase for authentication and database management. Resend API is used for email notifications. AI features such as schedule generation and confidence analysis are powered through external APIs. The app combines real-time scheduling, conflict detection, and user profile matching.

Challenges we ran into

Handling time-based logic was challenging, especially overlapping sessions, conflict detection, and accurate calendar rendering. Implementing fair rating and confidence systems without exposing private data was also difficult. Integrating real-time updates and email notifications required careful backend coordination.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The biggest challenge was coming up with the right set of ideas that not only solve a real problem but also work well together in one system. Another major difficulty was demonstrating all the features and functionality clearly within a short demo video, making sure everything was understandable without overwhelming the viewer.

What we learned

We learned how to design systems that combine user behavior, real-time data, and AI insights. We also gained experience handling edge cases in scheduling and building features that feel natural and useful rather than forced.

What's next for study hub

We plan to improve recommendation systems, expand AI features like smart time suggestions, and add deeper personalization. In the future, we want to integrate friend matching, group quality scoring, and campus-wide adoption.
