Inspiration

As engineering students, our phones are always buzzing with WhatsApp messages, random Drive links, and forwarded PDFs just before exams. It's a complete disaster trying to locate that particular math note or check the latest timetable. We understood that we required just one simple website where all things—notes, timetables, and study groups are located in one place.

What it does

StudyHub is a student portal that simplifies college life. On our website, you can: Make a secure account and log in. Have a personal dashboard to monitor your study life. Upload and download PDF notes for various subjects. Add classes to your weekly calendar. Participate in subject study groups to work together with classmates.

How we built it

We divided the tasks: my partner worked on the server, and I worked on the user interface. Frontend: I designed the screens from scratch using HTML, CSS, and pure JavaScript. I designed it to be mobile-friendly and used JS Fetch to communicate with the server. Backend: Python and Flask. Database: SQLite database connected through SQLAlchemy. Security: Werkzeug for hashing and securing user passwords (so they're not stored as plaintext.

Challenges we ran into

Honestly, linking the frontend to the backend was much harder than we expected! We spent a lot of time trying to understand how Flask routing works and resolving pesky “CORS errors” so my JavaScript could finally communicate with the Python code. Additionally, implementing the file upload system to correctly store PDFs in the database took a lot of trial and error.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are just really proud that we were able to create a complete and functional full-stack web application in our first year! We were able to implement a secure login system, connect multiple database tables (so a user only sees their own schedule), and make the UI look clean and professional.

What we learned

We learned how actual websites work behind the scenes. We learned how to implement REST APIs, how databases communicate with the backend, and how to use JavaScript to dynamically update the screen. We also learned a lot about debugging when things go wrong.

What's next for Study hub

Hosting it online: We want to deploy it online so that our whole college batch can actually use it. Live Chat: Implementing a real-time group chat system for the study groups. Smart Search: Implementing tags so that searching for specific notes is even faster
