Inspiration

The inspiration behind StudyHive comes from the shift to digital technology transforming education into a collaborative experience, where students increasingly rely on teamwork and resource sharing. Existing tools often fall short of supporting a student-led collaboration, driving the need for a dedicated peer-to-peer platform where learners can actively help each other succeed.

By moving away from isolated learning, StudyHive was built to create a space where students exchange ideas, sharpen critical thinking, and achieve better academic outcomes together.

What it does

StudyHive isn't just your typical study app, it’s an interactive learning space built for students to connect and collaborate. Easily create private study rooms or join existing ones using unique room codes. Staying connected through group chats to ask questions and exchange ideas. Organizing your workflow with a shared notes, reviewers, and documents, and testing your knowledge using interactive quizzes and surveys.

How we built it

StudyHive is a mobile learning application developed using DART programming language and Android Studio as its integrated development environment (IDE). It is designed to help students organize their studies, access learning resources, and improve their productivity. The app will also integrate RevenueCat to manage in-app subscriptions and payments for its premium version. The premium version will provide users with additional features and benefits beyond the free version.

Challenges we ran into

Whilst creating StudyHive, we faced difficulties through each phase of development; but majorly through the process of building the front-end and the back-end. The difficulties our frontend team faced were related the UI, despite there being a pre-existing concept made by the UI/UX designers using Figma, implementing the idea onto HTML required more detail— also having to keep in mind to keep it clean and neat.

Furthermore, another difficulty the frontend developers out how to make the interface responsive across different devices; encountering problems with the UI overflowing or a layout breakage. The backend team encountered issues during the development process, specifically with database management, system integration, and communication between the frontend and backend. The team also experienced difficulties during testing and debugging, which required additional adjustments and optimization to ensure that the system worked properly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One of the accomplishments we are proud of is turning our original idea into a mobile application focused on student-to-student collaboration. We were able to bring together different aspects of studying, such as shared resources, group communication, quizzes, surveys, and study rooms, into one platform.

We are also proud of how our team worked together despite facing challenges in frontend development, backend integration, UI/UX implementation, and testing. Each member contributed to different parts of the project, allowing us to continuously improve StudyHive throughout the development process.

What we learned

Throughout the development of StudyHive, we learned that building an application requires more than just writing code. Planning, communication, UI/UX design, frontend and backend integration, testing, and debugging all play an important role in creating a functional application.

We also learned the importance of collaboration within a development team. Different parts of the application need to work together properly, so communicating with each other and solving problems as a team became an important part of the development process.

What's next for Study Hive

Moving forward, we plan to continue improving StudyHive by refining its existing features, improving the overall user experience, and making the application more stable and responsive across different devices.

We also plan to expand the application's premium features through RevenueCat and explore additional productivity and learning features that can further support students. As the application develops, we hope to make StudyHive a more complete collaborative learning platform for students.
