Inspiration

We found that there is a lack of interactive planning and scheduling programs, and this is a problem especially during quarantine, where people's senses of time could be worsened due to lack of social reminders.

What it does

We wanted to make a program that not only reminds the user of tasks, but actually tracks the time they work for, and gives points and feedback to help the user improve their own goal setting and time management while also feeling rewarded.

How we built it

Our team used Python to build the demo that we have. It currently only allows for the basic features, but we had many ideas for other features to be added.

Challenges we ran into

Our group was put together through the "looking-for-team" channel, and all of us ended up being strongest at backend development. Because of this, there is a limited frontend and the UI is very basic.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Given that for most of us this was a first hackathon, we are happy that we at least finished the basic features of our program. We also believe that our idea is very practical, and given more time we could implement some more advanced UI and some graphics.

What we learned

Successful team formation takes more planning than just throwing some people with a lot in common together. Our team collaborated effectively, but could have been bolstered by someone with more experience in a different area (frontend, UI, UX).

The most important thing for all of us was gaining experience about the hackathon environment and learning new things at the workshops.

What's next for Study Companion

Currently, the project is just a skeleton backend with no graphics and limited UI. Our idea for the future is to turn this into a web/mobile application with many more functions such as frequently delivering personalized advice to the user, and a system for the user to redeem the points they earned.
