Inspiration
Studying can be a tedious task and it can be easy to get distracted by websites such as YouTube, game websites, and other distractions.
What it does
A user can input websites that they would like to block during an active studying session. When a study session is active (i.e. timer starts), anytime the user accesses a blacklisted website, it would display an animation of the mascot Jepi blocking the screen and forcing the user to close the tab and continue studying. While the timer is running, there will be an animation of 5 leaves falling and making a pile over time. When the pile contains 5 leaves, the timer is up and the pile gets blown away in the wind.
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS, and Javascript to build the extension and UI, along with using Chrome and Gemini API to help us optimize the overall appearance of the website.
Challenges we ran into
Learning Git and how to resolve merge conflicts while keeping track and saving our work progress. It required a lot of communication beforehand and techniques that we were not used to at first.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to successfully get the overall timer functionality working so far and have a decent website and UI design for our project.
What we learned
We learned the importance of version control tools (Git) and the effectiveness of communication during teamwork.
What's next for Study Buddy with Site Blocking and Pomodoro Timer
Revamping the animation and overall designs to make tool look more presentable. Perhaps add more features such as app integration (block certain distracting apps).
