Inspiration Study Buddy was inspired by the Quizlet Q-Chat feature. Q-Chat is a special mode on Quizlet that harnesses AI to help students learn. But, Q-Chat acts very robotically and is not flexible to the user's needs. Study Buddy remedies these faults by using the groundbreaking GPT-4 LLM. It can adapt to the user's needs, and speak fluently and with humor.
What it does Study Buddy assists the user with their academic goals. It can apply their knowledge, aid them with diagrams, and explain concepts.
How we built it I built it using the Custom GPT feature accompanied by ChatGPT Plus. It allows for creation of custom LLMs through prompt engineering and integration of APIs.
Challenges we ran into Study Buddy currently uses the Bing Image Search API to find images on the net. It was a great challenge to add this though. The problem was that we didn't know how to parameters in the query. We figured out that ChatGPT itself can recognize the users query and fill in parameters itself. This was a difficult challenge to overcome.
