Inspiration
We are international students at De Anza College and studying is very important for us. When studying, we want to take breaks in between for effectiveness. We need task tracker not to miss any deadlines and to be productive. We sometimes use Youtube or Spotify to open soft music when studying. It is too many steps to do all of them so we plan to create a page where we can access all of them.
What it does
Our Study Buddy is for students who want to get to their studies right away without taking too many steps, finding alarms, opening tasks notes, and turning on music. We want the students to have effective study time while doing less work. We hope students get study motivation from our app. We aim for not only students but also learners from different backgrounds all across the globe. Based on the Pomodoro technique, we have learned that students can learn more effectively if they take short breaks in between. As the focusing period is different from one to the other, we also designed the timer to be customized by the users. They can set the study time, and the short and long breaks depending on their preference.
How we built it
We mainly used HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and JQuery which are easy to learn and implement.
Challenges we ran into
We want to create a better app with suggestions and feedback from peers and friends.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Everything. We are very proud that we could join our first Hackathon after approximately 10 months of being in the United States. We are computer science students and we are eager to learn everything. We got tons of motivation from attending workshops, seeing hard-working students from different universities as well as loads of valuable experience that we have never gotten in our life.
What we learned
We learned that we still need to learn lots of things. A thousand journey starts with a single step and we hope Cal Hacks 9.0 will be the first step in our CS career.
What's next for Study Buddy
We will expand the app by adding some cool features including the option to create ed plans.
