Inspiration
I always study better when they sit with someone. It keeps me focused and motivated. But sometimes I get a little too focused and forget to take care of myself. With Study Buddy, you can simulate sitting with someone else, and it periodically reminds you to take part in self care activities.
What it does
All Study Buddy does is sit on your PC and reminds you to take breaks every 20 minutes (3 seconds for testing purposes).
How we built it
Study Buddy was coded from scratch using HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. No AI code used!
Challenges we ran into
I have never used HTML, JavaScript, or CSS, so I had to learn the basics of all three. I also tend to like to learn everything very thoroughly, but due to time constraints, I had to learn to be ok with glossing over many things just to get something functional. Also, since I have so little programming knowledge, I really wanted to focus on learning a basic important skill. I didn't use any code generated from AI and wrote everything myself, which made creating anything impressive very challenging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I put together a working HTML page, with JavaScript, which is something I knew nothing about before this past Friday night.
What we learned
I learned technical skills such as HTML, JavaScript, and some CSS. I also learned a lot about the parts of these languages that I haven't done much with, such as attributes, classes, and parent-child relationships in coding. I also learned a lot about how I like to learn as an individual. My goal with this was just to learn as much as possible.
What's next for Study Buddy
I didn't get to integrate the feature of having the plant image change as you check off tasks, or as tasks pile up. Next I would like to play around with integrating that as well.
