Inspiration

Computers are designed to connect us and give us a sense of community. Every student encounters moments when they could use a little extra help with homework or test preparation, but not everyone feels comfortable approaching a professor or has friends who understand the subject. This is where StudyBuddy comes in. Study groups are amazing for both making friends and academic support, allowing students to connect with peers while tackling assignments. This concept resonated with our team, inspiring us to turn it into a reality.

What It Does

StudyBuddy helps students find or create study groups for specific subjects. It shows active study groups open to new members, helping foster connections between peers. Whether students are looking for ongoing support or need assistance for a one-time challenge, our platform provides a space to meet new people and collaborate.

How We Built It

We developed StudyBuddy using React as our framework and Next.js with JavaScript for the majority of our codebase. We utilized Figma to design the website layouts, ensuring a user-friendly experience. MongoDB served as our database scheme, and Canva helped produce some of the product's artwork.

Challenges We Ran Into

Our team was new to React and hackathons, and we faced the challenge of learning, planning, and coding the entire project within a limited timeframe. Navigating our inexperience was our biggest obstacle.

Accomplishments We’re Proud Of

We are proud to have developed a working product to showcase at the end of the hackathon. Achieving our initial goal is an indescribable feeling

What We Learned

Throughout this process, we gained a solid understanding of web development fundamentals and honed our debugging skills, despite how frustrating it is.

What’s Next for StudyBuddy

We have ambitious plans for StudyBuddy beyond what we could accomplish in such a short timeframe. Future features include implementing a close-friends system and filtering study groups by class.
