Inspiration
Learning should not feel like a lonely struggle. We noticed that many students face these challenges: Difficulty understanding complex topics without guidance Lack of personalized study support Trouble organizing study plans and tracking progress Limited access to tutors when they need help
We wanted to create a 24×7 study companion — one that explains concepts clearly, generates practice questions instantly, and keeps students motivated. That’s how Study Buddy was born.
What it does
Study Buddy is an AI-powered learning companion that helps students learn more effectively — especially those who struggle with reading challenges, such as dyslexia.
The app enables students to: Convert complex text into simpler, clearer language Generate summaries, MCQs, flashcards, and study notes instantly Translate content into preferred languages Highlight key ideas and vocabulary for better retention Review saved history for convenient revision Access dyslexia-friendly reading modes such as: - Adjustable font choices (including dyslexia-friendly fonts) - Custom text spacing and contrast - Text chunking and bullet breakdowns
Study Buddy ensures every learner can understand and stay confident — not just memorize.
How we built it
The app is designed as a lightweight, privacy-focused study companion that works directly in the browser. It transforms any selected web content or pasted text into structured learning aids. Our design principles: Accessibility first - clear fonts, readable layouts, keyboard navigation Local processing - reduced dependency on the internet; safer for students Flexible learning formats - visual, textual, and interactive options Universal support for school, college, and special-education learners Everything revolves around the belief that learning should adapt to the student, not the other way around.
Challenges we ran into
Tuning AI to provide accurate, concise, curriculum-friendly results Ensuring explanations remain helpful across subjects & age levels Designing tools that feel simple while offering many features Creating quiz and flashcard outputs that follow good pedagogy Making accessibility seamless: -Retaining readability across many font sizes -Maintaining high visual contrast without clutter -Structuring content so screen readers can interpret it smoothly These hurdles helped us improve both the technology and the student experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A study tool that reduces learning anxiety and builds confidence AI support that is available anytime without needing a tutor Features specifically helping students with dyslexia and reading fatigue Smooth browser integration, allowing learning anywhere on the internet Making the study accessible for learners with different paces, abilities, and backgrounds
What we learned
We discovered that: Customization and accessibility are essential — one size does not fit all Breaking text into organized, digestible pieces boosts retention Students feel supported when technology: - guides them through difficulties - celebrates small progress - simplifies overload EdTech should be rooted in inclusion, not just intelligence.
Most importantly, we learned that AI can empower learners who were often left behind - including those with dyslexia.
What's next for the Study Buddy App
We plan to expand accessibility and learning outcomes with:
Voice-based learning — read aloud + speech-to-query AR visuals to help with subjects like geometry and biology Gamification with rewards and learning streaks Spaced repetition scheduling for memory mastery Teacher dashboards to track class progress Shared study decks for peer learning Fully offline functionality for low-network environments
We’ll continue working to ensure: Every student, including those with dyslexia, receives the support they deserve to learn, grow, and thrive.
