Inspiration

The inspiration for Study Buddy AI came from seeing how students of different ages struggle with organising their study time, understanding their notes and keeping up with their exam preparation. Most tools are either too generic, too childish or too complex. I wanted to create something that actually feels like a supportive study companion: a tool that understands the student’s class, subject and syllabus, and helps them learn in a way that feels natural and stress free.

What it does

Study Buddy AI creates a personalised study ecosystem for students. It builds smart study plans, generates summaries and formula sheets, explains concepts, solves doubts, extracts information from handwritten notes using OCR, listens to questions through speech to text, reads answers aloud with text to speech and provides a Notion-style digital handbook for preparation. It also keeps students motivated with XP, streaks, levels and achievements while offering a floating AI tutor available across all pages.

How we built it

The project was built using a single, carefully structured Base44 prompt that generates the entire app in one run. This includes the UI, backend logic, routing, AI agent, OCR pipeline, voice features and gamified elements. The most important work was designing the prompt to handle grade selection, subject selection, study planning, handbook generation and the floating AI agent while keeping everything clean and functional. A lot of time went into refining the instructions so that all parts of the app worked together smoothly.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenges were ensuring Base44 added all grades and subjects correctly, maintaining a clean and neutral UI, and getting the AI agent to handle text, images and voice consistently. Integrating the floating agent across all pages and generating everything within the constraint of one credit required a lot of careful prompt design. Getting OCR and study planning to work reliably for students ranging from Class 1 to UPSC aspirants was also demanding but rewarding.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating a fully functional, end-to-end AI study assistant in a single generation. The floating AI tutor, the automated study plan engine, the Notion-style handbook, the OCR doubt solver and the gamification system all came together into a smooth and intuitive experience. The app feels genuinely helpful and approachable for students of all age groups, which was the original goal.

What we learned

We learned how powerful well-structured prompts can be when building complex systems with Base44. We learned how to balance features with clarity, how to design user flows that work for very different types of students and how to integrate multiple AI features without overwhelming the user. This project also taught us how important clean UI and simple navigation are in reducing stress for learners.

What's next for Study Buddy AI

The next steps include adding collaborative study rooms where friends can study together, real-time performance insights, deeper analytics, personalised flashcard decks, voice-based lessons and integration with student timetables. We also plan to expand the handbook system with AI-generated mind maps and chapter-wise difficulty predictions. Ultimately, we want Study Buddy AI to become the most supportive and intelligent study companion a student can have.
