Inspiration
We wanted to make an application that would help students and lifetime learners establish good studying habits through spaced memorization. While there are alternatives to this kind of application we wanted to implement ideas that we thought this type of the website would benefit from.
What it does
Our application aggregates terms, questions, and other study materials into bite-size chunks for students to better retain knowledge
How we built it
We used a stack of MySQL, ExpressJS, ReactJS, and NodeJS to create this application. We thought it would be beneficial to gain more experience with these technologies.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge for us was getting pages to interact with each other. There were also, many tiny details stopped us from continuing.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the UI that we established and the micro API that was born from our application.
What we learned
While we did not finish, we did learn a lot about the technology stack and better practices for the future. We learned we should focus on core functionality rather than moot details. We also learned that we need to be more mindful of the time at hackathons. Also, we feel we could have prepared better by studying the technology stack beforehand.
What's next for Study Buddy
We want to add the opportunity to share sets with anyone regardless of which users own it. We want to aggregate questions from multiple sources about the same topic to create more diverse quizzes.
