Inspiration

While studying for our midterm exams, several members of our group utilized phone timers to increase productivity. While we found both block timers and the pomodoro method very effective, we wished there was a way to be able to group study remotely while being able to hold each other accountable

What it does

Study Buddies allows you to study individually or group study remotely by syncing your timer with your friends. Invite your buddies by text or email through a unique url, set your timer method and duration, and begin your group study session!

How we built it

Study Buddies was built for both web and mobile. The web application was built using HTML, CSS, and JS, the mobile application was made in Dart and Flutter. The design and custom artwork was created in Figma and ProCreate.

Challenges we ran into

This was the first hackathon for all of our teammates, learning to ideate and create a full application in a fixed time frame was part of the learning curve for our team. For our app, the most challenging factor was creating a functioning countdown timer. We were able to collaborate on the issues we were having and successfully implement it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

What we're proud of is building a new mobile app and web app during our first hackathon. We collaborated with each other and leaned on each other's skills along the way.

What we learned

We learned how to be resourceful and collaborate to solve problems. Whenever we were faced with a problem, we found solutions or ways to avoid the problem.

What's next for Study Buddies

There are still many aspects of the app to improve on. We will continue to update the app and create new features as we learn new technologies.
