Inspiration

I was inspired to create this concept for an app/website through my own experiences. Currently, I am not taking the same classes as any of my friends, and I find it difficult to reach out to people that already go to the same school as me. So, I figured that if I made an app that would connect me with someone that I don't know in person, I wouldn't be as fearful to reach out & ask for help relating to topics that I am learning in school.

What it does

Study Bench is essentially a social media platform meant to make studying & learning more interesting & collaborative for students of any age that aren't able to afford professional tutors. After signing up on the website/app, Study Bench will match students in the same time zone that are studying the same subjects & topics, and set up a video call or messaging thread, depending on the student's settings.

How we built it

While I have not fully created a functional website or app yet, I have created a "prototype" on Canva that will help further understand the concept of our future website.

Challenges we ran into

Designing the website was difficult because there were so many things that I wanted to include, but knew that I had to narrow down my ideas to what would be the most user-friendly. Additionally, I had to thoroughly thinking through the features and functionality of the tool.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of my prototype & my ability to think everything through without any help. In the past, I have used the help of partners and teammates to think ideas through and refine end products. However, this time I was able to do it alone. In the future, this experience will definitely help with my confidence in other hackathons.

What we learned

I learned how to deal with the challenges I ran into. Because I had so many ideas, I found it difficult to organize them. So, I used my whiteboard to write down all of my ideas & eventually used the process of elimination to determine what the best path to take would be while designing the prototype.

What's next for Study Bench

In the future, I plan to create a functional website & app that will connect students around the world and promote a safe and effective learning environment that will enhance the studying experiences of any user.
