💭Inspiration

The idea for Studopet came from our team's personal experiences as students. We often found it challenging to balance our academic responsibilities with our personal lives, leading to stress and burnout. We realized that having a routine and structure could significantly improve our well-being and productivity.

⭐ What it does

Studopet is an interactive virtual pet webapp aimed to help reinforce your routine!

  • 🍖feed your pet to keep it happy and healthy
  • ⚽play with your pet for a refreshing break from studying
  • 💤 when your pet is tired, putting it to bed serves as a gentle reminder to get some rest yourself
  • 🎵 listen to relaxing jams while you study

Personalize your experience by inputting your own sleep times, making it even more tailored to your schedule and you can also name your pet!

🔨How we built it

Our development journey started with Leanne's wireframes, which laid the foundation for our project. We then created a basic template for each page, gradually adding features like sign-up and authentication. We implemented progress bars for the pet's needs and game mechanics to make the experience engaging. Finally, we focused on CSS and styling to give Studopet its polished look.

🦗Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into included merge conflicts due to many team members working on features for the same page simultaneously. Some of our code clashed and couldn't work with other parts of the code so we had to sort that out together.

🥳Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're incredibly proud of achieving all the planned features for Studopet. From integrating assets for the pets to completing the interactive elements that bring Studopet to life, such as the Hunger bar filling when you feed the pet, we've accomplished a lot this weekend. Also our database is fully flushed out, storing everything from including the pet's name and stats to user data. The design also turned out great, showcasing the hard work and dedication that everyone put in.

📔What we learned

Revisiting web development for Studopet was an fun but tricky experience at times. We really got into the nitty-gritty of making an interactive game. It was all about juggling the backend database with the frontend design to create a functioning and smooth user experience. As some team members focused on backend development and others on frontend design, we learned the importance of collaboration and how each part contributes to the overall success of the project.

🚀What's next for Studopet

Next, we plan to implement multi-language support for our menus, enhancing Studopet's accessibility and user-friendliness. We'd also like to incentivize students to take great care of their pets with a reward system. Rewards would be spent in a store, where users can purchase things like cosmetic items or treats for their pets.
