Inspiration
Study pet and plant games were our inspiration, along with dating sims. Mixing the parasocialism of dating sims with studying sounds like a good way to get hooked onto being productive.
What it does
Our game has a to-do list, a pomodoro timer, and statistics to keep the user interested. They can tease and interact with Pomme by touching their sprite and also trigger dialogue, which changes depending on their actions! We weren't able to implement dates in time but have set up the API related stuff in another branch so hopefully soon :)
How we built it
We first wrote out all of our functions in typescript, and used node.js and express for the back end. We used React to write the front end (last).
Challenges we ran into
Integrating the different parts of this project was very stressful as we had never made a front end before and it was out first time EVER. We had so many issues getting the back end and front end to communicate with one another.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of having something that works!
What we learned
EVERYTHING. It was our first time making a project ourselves, and we learnt essentially everything from scratch aside from back end stuff. We learnt react, design, writing, and time management, and tried to learn deployment. All in two days!
What's next for Studious Slice (of Life)
Hopefully adding in storyline, dates, and possibly even a journal feature!
