Inspiration: As busy and easily distracted students, we wanted to develop a solution that helps promote our productivity. We focused on Pomodoro and Continuous study techniques to give students diagnosed with ADHD and dyscalculia the much-needed tailored learning techniques in order to succeed at their work.
What it does: Studios would provide personalized study plans that incorporate the Pomodoro Technique for ADHD students, promoting focused intervals of work and regular breaks, while for dyscalculia, students can work at their own pace on any math-related tasks with the Continuous Technique, there being no pressure for timed sessions. Studios offers a dynamic and interactive organizer with a built-in Pomodoro timer. Studios also offers a generated study plan for students.
How we built it: Studios was built on HTML5 and JavaScript. The website receives input from users based on their semester, courses, and course events – like Assignments, Tests and Exams. It then generates a calendar and organizer based on these inputs which are customizable to meet students needs.
Challenges we ran into: Web App: • Incorporating back-end programming with our front-end programming in a seamless and functional way • Incorporating interactive features in a way that does not disrupt the overall concept of the program Overall: • We had a hard time incorporating a simulator into our website that can help generate a study plan for users
Accomplishments that we're proud of: We are very proud of the fact that we were able to build a functional website that has the potential to be a very useful tool for students. We are happy that our base website has the main functionalities that we wanted to achieve – a generated organizer and a simulator based on study techniques.
What we learned: We learned a lot about general web development and the importance of teamwork. We learned that the Pomodoro technique can be very beneficial – taking breaks helps! We believe that this website has room for development for different applications, like in schools, with counsellors, parents and students themselves. It is an efficient, user-friendly and simple tool that can be used by all. While we faced some challenges, we were able to work together and build a functional website that we truly believe in.
