Inspiration

Inequality in education is still a serious problem around the world. Especially in rural areas in developing countries, students struggle to find educational resources and opportunities on the level that those in urban areas or in developed nations are able to. This app aims to help students of any background in finding passionate students to study or work with and aid in allowing them to collaborate over the internet around the world.

What it does

The idea of the app in principle is to act as a discoverer for students of similar personalities, and interests and allow them to collaborate and work together using Discord. It is similar to Tinder in that users can swipe left/right to indicate which student they would like to work with. Students are able to contact each other using Discord solely, unlike other meetup apps focused on meeting physically, which can be dangerous. On Discord, students can then use it as a medium for effectively communicating, sharing resources together, working together on voice channels, and networking and making acquaintances with people of various backgrounds and nationalities.

How we built it

The app was built using native Android technologies, Android Studio and Kotlin.

Challenges we ran into

The largest challenge was managing which features should be implemented in such a short timeframe. There were many features that had to be scrapped because of time constraints and circumstances outside the hackathon.
