Inspiration
Our inspiration comes from learning management systems (LMS) being, at times, overwhelmingly difficult to navigate due to the inconsistency between the student's instructors. For example, some instructors don't post grades on their LMS, where as some pile the entire semester's worth of material on the student at once.
What it does
Student Web is a tool that allows the student to take control of their classwork and notes. It allows them to be more organized and consistent across all of their classes. Student Web is not a tool to replace LMS with their instructors - it is designed to give the student a way to organize their classwork and track progress in the class.
How we built it
We built this using the Django framework and constructed the UI with the Bootstrap framework. We designed this with the student in mind - what is important to them.
Challenges we ran into
We had some problems with version control. We solved this by removing previous version and replacing it with the newer version by uploading it manually. Another problem we had was formatting issue with the website when trying to upload website files to the server. We were able to solve this by keeping all the pages consistent in terms of layout.
Accomplishments that we are proud of
We are proud to have learned frameworks we have never touched before to implement it in such a short period of time at a semi-large scale considering the team size and knowledge of each member. As we have little experience with web development, we are happy to make a website that students can interact with and use in their daily lives!
What we learned
We learned to use Bootstrap and Django framework to create website that is modern and user friendly.
What's next for Student Web
We plan to implement functions that we were not able to due to time constraints. Later down in the line, we hope to make a website that all students can use, not just for college, but also for high school and for other personal learning purposes. We also would like to make the web application to be more modular and customizable so it fits the student's needs.
