Inspiration
For the theme of education, we had noticed that scheduling meetings with teachers at school is often frustrating and inefficient, so we set out to solve that. Students don’t know when teachers are available, teachers get overwhelmed by requests, and coordinating across rotating schedules usually requires long email chains. We wanted a simple tool that helps both sides quickly find times that work, based on real availability and subject needs.
What it does
MeetMatch automatically connects students and teachers based on: Their availability The subject or course a student needs help with Teacher proficiency Users can: Set availability using a calendar-style interface Request meetings with teachers who align with their needs View upcoming meetings in a week calendar Edit account details Submit help tickets when they run into issues Data is stored locally in JSON, so the tool works without external databases.
How we built it
We built MeetMatch using: Python + Bottle for backend routing and page rendering HTML/CSS (Bottle templates) for the interface JSON-based storage for account data, availability, and tickets Key components: A dynamic calendar for setting availability via click-and-drag A meeting request interface that filters by teacher subject proficiency A modular helper system for account handling A unified dashboard showing upcoming meetings and weekly schedule
Challenges we ran into
Implementing a smooth click-and-drag calendar interface for selecting availability Designing a structure to store availability and meetings in JSON while keeping it simple to work with Managing state across multiple pages without a database layer Working with Bottle templates at scale while keeping styling consistent Handling role differences between teachers and students
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Created an intuitive drag-to-select calendar Designed a clean and consistent interface across all pages Developed a modular helper architecture to separate logic from routing Made the application run entirely without an external database
What we learned
How to build practical web apps using Python and Bottle How to design structured JSON storage for user data How to build dynamic UI interactions such as click-and-drag time selection How to coordinate backend logic and frontend templates cleanly How to plan modular code structure in a short timeframe
What's next for MeetMatch
Email or SMS notifications Google Calendar or Outlook sync Admin views for school-wide oversight More automated meeting recommendations Availability conflict checking Support for multiple schools and multi-user teacher accounts
