What it does
The Student Task Manager allows users to:
- Add tasks with descriptions and deadlines
- View a list of pending tasks
- Mark tasks as completed
- Stay organized using a simple and clear interface
How we built it
I built this project using Java as a console-based application.
Main components:
- A
Taskclass to store task details (name, deadline, status) - An
ArrayListto store all tasks - A menu-driven system to interact with the user
- Methods to add, view, and complete tasks
I focused on writing clean, readable code and testing features step by step as I added them.
Challenge I ran into
Was starting. Since this was my first hackathon, it felt overwhelming at first. I also faced challenges with:
- Designing the program structure
- Managing multiple features without breaking existing code
- Debugging logic errors
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This hackathon helped me gain confidence in my abilities as a developer. Even though the project is simple, it represents a big learning milestone for me. I now feel more comfortable taking on independent projects and participating in future hackathons.
What we learned
Through building Student Task Manager, I learned how to turn a simple idea into a working project. I improved my understanding of Java fundamentals such as classes, methods, and lists, and learned how to structure a small program in a clean and organized way.
This project also taught me how to work independently, manage my time during a hackathon, and solve problems by breaking them into smaller steps. Most importantly, I learned that completing a functional project is more valuable than trying to build something overly complex.
What's next for Student Task Manager
In the future, I would like to expand Student Task Manager by adding features such as saving tasks to a file so data is not lost when the program closes, adding priority levels to tasks, and creating a simple graphical or web-based interface.
As I continue learning, I also plan to improve the code structure and add better input validation to make the app more user-friendly.
