Inspiration

As university students, we constantly struggle with keeping up with multiple assignments, exam schedules, and academic deadlines. Managing these efficiently without unnecessary system clutter can be overwhelming. This inspired me to create a highly readable, lightweight, and clean CLI tool that gives students immediate clarity on their tasks and automatically tracks time left until final deadlines.

What it does

The Student Task & Deadline Manager is a streamlined Python command-line application. It allows students to:

  • Log Academic Tasks: Instantly add specific course assignments or tests.
  • Track Deadlines: Input Target completion dates.
  • Smart Countdown: Calculate exactly how many days are left dynamically.
  • Visual Warnings: Flag overdue items immediately with distinct alerts.

How I built it

The prototype is entirely written in Python. Emphasizing code readability and minimal cognitive strain, it leverages the built-in datetime engine without dragging in complex, heavy frameworks. The logic relies on clean Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) architectures for structured task management.

Challenges I ran into

The main challenge was handling real-time date comparisons and ensuring strict validation for date string parsing, which was resolved using proper error handling mechanics to prevent app crashes.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Building a fully working, predictable, and highly functional utility within a very short timeframe as a solo participant.

What I learned

I deeply polished my skills in Python OOP paradigms, logical date manipulation, and repository version control structuring.

What's next for Student Task & Deadline Manager

Integrating an automated local JSON storage mechanism to persist student tasks across system reboots and adding a sleek GUI companion window.
