Bucks Buddy

Inspiration

We knew that college was a time for preparation, but not just financially. We understood the college experience and wanted an app that would uniquely help students prepare financially and have a jumping-off point for the future of money.

What it does

An app that allows you to build a budget, record transactions, and view upcoming campus events. There is also an AI chatbot implemented that will assist users with any financial questions they face and offer unique insight into their own financial habits. There is also a graph that offers a visual of how users' finances are split.

How we built it

We started off uploading the mock data into a BaaS (Backend-as-a-Service) platform called Superbase. Once we got it running, we used Streamlit to make the front-end of the app with the help of an AI assistant. The front end consists of React, and we used Python to connect the API. We integrated a chatbot using OpenAI and connected the API to our application. The chatbot is modified to help users with financial activities and campus events.

Challenges we ran into

The initial challenge was figuring out where to start and how to build the program, as none of us had ever done anything like this before. Connecting the backend to the front also proved to be a challenge, along with implementing our practice data. Also, making sure the entire app ran smoothly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learning more about the app designing and building process, such as the usage of frameworks like React, and how databases are used and implemented in apps. We are also proud of successfully implementing the openAI api and building the chatbot.

What we learned

We learned about languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS, along with frameworks like React and Next.js. Also, how to work with a big group to design and implement a project like this. Overall, this was an exciting learning experience.

What's next for Bucks Buddy

We would have a login/sign-up system along with a working database that stores user information securely. Also, implementing real-life college connections.
