STUDENT PLANET
## Inspiration: I was inspired by my own struggles with group projects in school. Coordinating tasks, tracking deadlines, and keeping everyone on the same page is often chaotic and stressful. I wanted to create a platform that would help students manage group projects more efficiently, communicate clearly, and stay on top of their responsibilities.
What I Learned:
Throughout this project, I learned a lot about no-code app development, database design, and user experience. I explored how to structure projects and tasks in a relational database, calculate progress automatically, and think about usability for different types of users. I also learned how to design an app that is both functional and visually appealing, with clear navigation and a student-friendly interface.
How I Built It:
I built the app using Glide, a no-code platform. I designed tables for users, projects, and tasks, and linked them with relations and rollups to calculate task completion and project progress automatically. I created separate screens for a public landing page, demo mode for judges, and private dashboards for users. I also incorporated visibility rules to ensure that some features only show for signed-in users.
Challenges I Faced:
Being a solo team added another layer of difficulty, as I had to design, build, and troubleshoot every aspect of the app by myself, from the database structure to the user interface. On top of that, Glide’s publishing restrictions prevented me from sharing a live version, so I had to rethink how to present the app to judges. Despite these limitations, I created a fully functional prototype and captured screenshots and a walkthrough video to demonstrate the full functionality.
Impact:
Student Planet shows how no-code tools can solve real student problems and improve collaboration. Even though it isn’t live online, the app clearly demonstrates my approach to building user-friendly, functional, and practical solutions for student life.
AI Tools:
I used Glide’s built-in AI to assist with:
- Suggesting task breakdowns when creating larger tasks
- Automating progress calculations and visibility rules No external AI tools were used.
Team Members:
I am working as a solo team.
