By using this app, students can get personalised advices about the next few steps on education based on what modules/courses they have completed and their career preferences.
We are inspired by people saying the AI technology should be fixing problems that people find too complicated and troublesome that they are not willing to do them themselves. Both of us are grad students so we understand it's taking a lot of students' time trying to gather information about how to accurately locate the knowledge they need, get more skills and gain more experiences to make them more career-ready (in and outside university). Xiaorui first came up with the idea of this advisor app and Vidhu helped improve and complete it.
After user putting their information about what they have studied and their career choices into the input session, the app provides advice about what they can do next using AI technology.
We met up once a week to discuss about the ideas and details. At first we couldn't find a solution we both agree on about the function of the app. But after we decided on this project we rapidly complete it.
We found it challenging to complete the app in a week based on just an idea, considering none of us has a programming background. So we focus more on details such as how should the process be, why students would choose to use the app and how it could attract more students. Then we use our knowledge about marketing, system analysis to solve out the solutions.
The final version of Student Education Advisor covers all the core aspects and work well. It covers the main goals that we are trying to achieve, which is provide help to students about their next steps. The process is also easy for users to operate. Users only need to input one time so it helps save their time to type in. Though the output might get a bit general based on the limited input information, but we believe it got it's own market target which are the students has no idea what to do next and this app would definitely provide useful help.
We learned about team work and how to find solutions that could make the team move on smoothly but not just insisting on our own ideas. Also it is a great experience for us to design a new app using AI technology.
Student Education Advisor could provide more specific advices in the future with the cooperation with education industry. For example, Student Education Advisor could link with university system or companies that provide certifications and training sessions, and provide a more specific and accurate plan to students.
