Student Central Express Home Page
Inspiration
Our inspiration for The Student Express came from our need as students to get volunteer hours and our desire to connect students with easy and free tutoring services, with us being the very first tutors of the platform. Additionally, tutoring services is definitely a need we’ve seen throughout our school and the city overall.
What it does
The Student Express is a website meant to connect students of all ages to free online tutoring services and resources while providing volunteer hours to people willing to tutor! Anyone on the platform can be a tutor or tutee at any time!
How we built it
In order to build our platform we did a lot of contemplating. Initially, we were set on using JavaScript on P5.js however as time went on we realized that in order to achieve our vision we would need to use HTML!
Challenges we ran into
Although we ultimately decided to use HTML, it's a medium that we had very little experience in. I, Osayamen, had some experience but was rusty and my partner Kennedy had never coded in. Additionally, we were incredibly ambitious with our ideas and had to adapt them to our skill level and abilities.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We put a lot of thought into our concept and were able to execute most of our desires or at least develop the concepts. Beyond that, we navigated through HTML to the very best of our abilities and it's reflected in our final product.
What we learned
In this process, we became much more familiar with HTML and broadened our knowledge as coders– in regards to the web. We also made greater use of our resources and were reminded of how much we can create using coding.
What's next for Student Central Express
We aspire to launch this platform at our school as it would be incredibly beneficial for our peers in meeting their volunteer hours and for all of our students– both middle and high school– in passing their classes and receiving additional help from their peers. Additionally, we hope to launch our ‘Tutor Finder’ feature that allows users to find tutors in real life near them and add pfp in the future so that we can incorporate databases and make it more user friendly.
