Inspiration
Managing money is one of the biggest challenges students face today. Between tuition, books, meals, transport, and social activities, it’s easy to lose track of spending or struggle to save. We wanted to create a student-focused budgeting app that simplifies financial tracking, encourages saving habits, and teaches financial responsibility in an engaging way. The inspiration for this project came almost immedaitly to us because we always have financial problems as students in Turkey. :(
What it does
Student Budget Planner and Advisor helps students track their income and expenses, set budgets, and plan savings. It also provides personalized financial tips to make budgeting fun and motivating.
How we built it
We built the app using React Native for cross-platform compatibility, general flexibility and simplicity. We used only ChatGPT as a helper for programming and design. We also plan to use Firebase for real-time database and authentication, and Chart.js for visualizing spending and savings. The app allows manual expense tracking, budget customization, and financial recommendations for students.
Challenges we ran into
- Designing a simple interface that balances functionality with ease-of-use.
- Integrating this app very while keeping it lightweight, but keeping it also appealing
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully created an intuitive and visually appealing dashboard.
- Built a smart recommendation part that provides actionable financial advice.
What we learned
We learned how to combine UX design, data management, and financial logic into a single app. We also gained experience in cross-platform development and the importance of user-centered design, especially for a niche audience like students.
What's next for Student Budget Planner and Advisor
We plan to add bank integration for automatic tracking, AI-powered financial advice, and community features for students to share tips and savings challenges. Long-term, we aim to expand the app globally, adapting it to different currencies, education systems, and student needs.
