Inspiration
Students or kids or even adults don't have the habit of managing their budgets and pocket money. Neither do they have an all integrated application platform where they can showcase their contributions to sponsors or employers and earn some money to manage their daily expenses. This lead us to create the integrated application called Student At Work.
What it does
The application Student At Work would allow students/kids or even adults manage their budgets and pocket money, with features that allows them to forecast their balance into the future and plan their finances accordingly. This helps in obtaining financial literacy at an early age, and analyses child accounts to help them get started with a credit score. Students enter food expenses, budget plans, expenditure allowed every day, cost management plans in the application. Score comparison -via gamification, to keep users using the apps for long. Badge system progression to unlock new rewards . The target is to do a rating based on their transaction movement, but as well on their social behaviour like GitHub project contribution, Grade that they had in the past etc. This applies to many fields, the target is leveraging bank data + social data LinkedIn or to give a good rating for getting a loan. Students can obtain credit points by contributing to their Github profile or medium, provided the platform has access to the respective sites. The Credits they gain by contributing to open source platform can be used for the purpose of getting loans. The platform has events, virtual classrooms and study notes, forums to which users can contribute their knowledge. For each of their contribution the users get credit points, which they can use to attend other events and buy items on the platform which are sponsored by investors.
How we built it
Technology Used Frontend of the application is built with Flutter. Backend is supported by Firebase. As future scope
Challenges we ran into
The entire project was split into modules. Hence integrating different parts of the application was a challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Some students might not have good academic results but are quite knowledgeable, using the credits earned, they can obtain a bank loan.
Our own credit scoring system takes into account their contributions in the platform.
Allow the users to get loans and other facilities, since the investors/sponsors can easily judge students based on the credit rating of individual students.
Parents will encourage their kids to use the app because they believe it is important for them to be knowledgeable in economics and money handling.
What we learned
From Technology perspective, we learned Flutter and Firebase concepts as well as API integration. From the perspective of group work, we shared our ideas, viewed the problem from different levels and finally created the solution. There was great learning involved. We contributed our best part, even though we were separated by distance.
What's next for Student at Work
As a future scope we plan to integrate augmented reality to help students teach other students with technology matters thus facilitating peer to peer learning. This would allow students to learn better. Also enabling them to earn some money.
