Inspiration
I'm Lungile from Ixopo, KZN. I saw learners in township/rural SA struggle with English-only homework help. Many understand better in Zulu. I wanted an AI tutor that speaks their language.
What it does
StuddyBuddy SA helps SA learners (Grade 8-12) with CAPS-aligned subjects in Zulu & English. Explains Maths, Science in simple language, switches to Zulu when needed.
How I built it - Learn Skill Pack
I used Learn Skill Pack with flipped interaction:
- Goal: I described I want to help Zulu learners, not just build an app.
- AI asked questions: Who is it for? What language? What offline challenges?
- Got planning docs: AI generated PRD, Tech Stack (Next.js, OpenAI), and Task breakdown - this was the flipped part!
- Implementation: Then built step-by-step with Cursor coding agent, using those docs as guide. Agent wrote code, I tested with real Zulu prompts.
Challenges
- Limited data/WiFi in Ixopo - made app lightweight
- Zulu translation accuracy - tested with family
- 255 char errors on Devpost! Learned to be concise
What I learned
Planning docs before coding saves time. Flipped interaction helps clarify idea. AI agents can build maintainable projects when given clear PRD.
Built with for SA learners## ##Accomplishments
