Inspiration
Every year, stubble burning causes severe air pollution across India. Seeing farmers burn crop residue due to lack of alternatives—and the environmental damage it causes—made us think: what if this “waste” could actually become a source of income?
⸻
What it does
StubbleX is a platform where farmers can sell their crop residue (stubble) instead of burning it. Industries can directly buy this stubble as raw material for biofuels, packaging, and other eco-friendly products. It connects supply (farmers) with demand (industries) in a simple and efficient way.
⸻
How we built it
We built a simple platform that allows:
- Farmers to list available stubble
- Industries to browse and purchase feedstock
- Basic matching between supply and demand
The focus was on keeping it easy to use and scalable for real-world adoption.
⸻
Challenges we ran into
- Understanding the real problem farmers face on ground
- Making the platform simple enough for non-tech users
- Ensuring a reliable connection between farmers and buyers
- Thinking about logistics and transportation of stubble
⸻
Accomplishments that we’re proud of
- Turning a major environmental problem into a business opportunity
- Creating a solution that benefits both farmers and industries
- Building a concept that can reduce air pollution at scale
⸻
What we learned
- Real problems need simple, practical solutions
- Sustainability can also be profitable
- User experience matters a lot, especially for rural users
- Tech can bridge gaps between traditional sectors and industries
⸻
What’s next for StubbleX
- Add logistics support for easy transportation
- Partner with more industries for demand generation
- Improve platform usability for farmers
- Expand to multiple regions with high stubble burning
