Inspiration
Staying active and social can be challenging with busy schedules, so we wanted to create an app that brings friends together in a simple, fun way. Walking is one of the easiest and healthiest ways to stay connected, but coordinating meetups often takes more effort than it should. Stroll was born from the idea of making it easier to enjoy quality time while staying active.
What it does
Stroll allows users to easily schedule walks with their friends. Users can set walk times, choose locations, and invite others to join, making it simple to connect and stay active together. The app also helps people explore new areas and keep up with their fitness goals in a social and enjoyable way.
How we built it
We built Stroll using Convex and React Native. The backend handles user authentication clearing old strolls and all functionality and data management while the frontend offers an intuitive interface for planning walks. We used Expo to make the app cross-platform and have created an iOS version of the app.
Challenges we ran into
Expanding and building. backend and front end rapidly for this hackathon was challenging. Convex made database schema updates and front end integration much easier however. Designing and iterating on database structure was a big part of the early development of this app as new features required updates across multiple contexts.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of creating a simple and user-friendly interface that makes it easy for friends to schedule walks. Developing an app that encourages health, friendship, and outdoor activity is something we take pride in.
What we learned
Throughout the process, we learned how important UX design is in creating an app that users will love. We also learned about how easy it is to create with Convex, building cron jobs, easy database tables and storage options.
What's next for Stroll
We're planning to add more features like walking challenges, route discovery based on user preferences, and integration with health apps to track steps and distance. We're also exploring options to incorporate more social elements, such as group walks or event-based strolls for charity walks and community meetups.
