Inspiration
The inspiration behind creating Stroll was driven by a recognition of the negative impacts of pollution on both the environment and public health, coupled with a desire to encourage people to stay fit and save money. We wanted to provide a solution that incentivizes walking to nearby shops through exclusive coupons, offering environmental and personal benefits simultaneously.
What it does
Stroll is a location-based app that connects users with nearby shops within walking distance, encouraging eco-friendly transportation choices. Users can access exclusive coupon codes from these stores as a reward for choosing to walk, promoting environmental sustainability and reducing pollution.
How we built it
We used React-Native and Google Map APIs to build an app that takes a users location and recommends stores and restaurants nearby for the users to walk to.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge we ran into was implementing the directions functionality. In the end, we couldn't make the directions and actual walking an interactive experience given the time constraint of the competition, but we did manage to list out the directions for users to read.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This was our entire team's first hackathon, so firstly we're proud of having a functioning product. On top of that, we're proud of the obstacles we overcame, including the integration of our first API, the design and implementation of our business idea, and learning React-Native in under a day.
What we learned
We learned the fundamentals of React Native and how to integrate it with Google Map APIs. We also learned a lot about version control with Git and the necessity of clean, readable code for a team to be the most productive it can be.
What's next for Stroll
Our team plans to continue developing and refining our application. We want to establish and start expanding on a dedicated user-base and steadily grow our operations.
