We have a patient in a family that required frequent therapy session, during the whole exercise we get an idea to develop an application that help patients to do exercises with little or no help at the home. This will help the patients to get rid of long queue and also save money by avoiding costly session of Physiotherapist.
This is a desktop application that is attached with a Kinect device,at the moment it's first version is focused for the upper body and exercises are designed accordingly. The patient has to align itself infront of Kinect device, the patient will be select the exercises through hand posture. The angle and posture will be identified by the device and it will guide the user to correct the posture and perform the exercise.
Application is developed using following tools: C#, sql server, WPF, Microsoft kinect sdks The application was designed with the exercises provided by the Physiotherapist and Doctors, so collecting the data was the hard task. After collecting the data we have written the algorithms that focused on the patients posture and angle on which the patients will perform exercise. So getting the time for a session with the physiotherapist or the doctor was the hardest task.
The biggest accomplishment we achieved is to test our product on the stroke patients and that helped them out. There are few things that we have learnt through whole activity, the patients though participated in the exercise but we have to make the session more interactive so that they can remain involve. We have to coordinate with doctors and physiotherapist to get more input regarding the exercises.
In the second version of stroke recovery we will try to focus on the exercises for whole body. We will include the exercises in form of games for the users to remain involve.
