Inspiration
Active learning was always a problem for me since I struggled to learn without the use of AI. This led me to develop a program that assists students in learning and notetaking by providing proper AI assistance to excel student understanding rather than spoon-feeding the answers.
What it does
It reads the student's work and notes and provides real-time assistance through hints, following a strict no-spoiler rule to solidify understanding. It points out any mistakes and informs the student if they are on track to solving the problem. Strive also gives in-depth analysis on the student's progress to inform them on their strengths and weaknesses.
How we built it
We used python to take images and parse it into readable code and math which was then passed through Gemini to assess student needs based on what they're asking.
Challenges we ran into
We struggled to actually take useful advantage of AI in a creative way rather than just inputting and outputting answers. Coming up with certain features which help students in the most effective way to solidify concepts and actually do the work themselves despite having access to AI.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud to have built an application that helps students learn more effectively and to create an environment of learning at the comfort of their home, despite the absence of professors and TAs.
What we learned
We learnt how important it is to consider the balance between human cognitivity and AI assistance to help students in the most effective way, rather than just using AI in a non-learning way.
What's next for Strive Notes
We want to expand our application beyond just Math and introduce other courses which will be more specialized in.
