Inspiration
We are a group of 8th-grade students who all have faced stress of some sort recently. Knowing how important the mental health and well-being is for a student, we made it our mission to ensure that these students can reach their full potential without being held back by stress. Our goal is to connect teens needing advice or help with issues relating to stress and mental health with doctors across the globe. Our application can help these teens by providing them with means of multiple perspectives on a single issue and allows them to access a variety of solutions and choose which one is best suited for them.
What it does
Our application enables teens across the globe connect with doctors who can help these teens by providing solutions that are best suited for the situation they are placed in. Many teens face stress on a regular basis and need someone to talk to. Our app, Stressless, enables these kids to find doctors to have a private chat conversation with. This way, these teenagers can work out their problems.
How we built it
We combined both Swift and Android to make 2 types of prototypes. The Android version was made of of many Activities, which in turn had many objects on each of them. Many of the buttons linked to other views and the own view. Also, the iOS app is a chat app that many people can converse with each other on. It uses Firebase so that all the data is stored.
Challenges we ran into
Many times, we had trouble networking in the project, due to a lack of time and resources. We tried to overcome this by using the machine itself, and for the prototype, not talking to other machines. The logic of the app was also very challenging, but we eventually untangled the app and made it work.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This was the first working prototype we have built as a team, and it enhanced our knowledge of programming knowledges. This app could serve as the basis of many projects yet to come.
What we learned
We learned much about the Swift and Android programming languages, and how to navigate the IDEs provided for each one. We also learned to manage a huge chunk of time and separate it out into conceivable chunks.
What's next for StressLess
StressLess could next be implemented with networking so that the chatting function can actually work and computers can communicate with each other. This could become a great way to help teens handle stress everywhere.
