Inspiration

Having been affected by a brain tumor early on in my life, I've always felt that it's important to be a strong advocate for mental health. The idea for Stressless came many years ago when I discovered that there was a disconnect between a psychiatrist's communication with a patient. As a result, Stressless was born.

What it does

Stressless provides a user with a way to communicate thoughts out to a psychiatrist while maintaining anonymity. This allows a user to be able to reach out when they need help, but not have to expose their feelings publicly or talk about it. This can really help to save lives. In addition, there are a bunch of mental health resources and activities that allow the user to relax their mind and find other ways to cope and vent.

How we built it

I built the app frontend using HTML and CSS on a Bulma Template. I used JavaScript with Firebase to make the backend of the app.

Challenges we ran into

Challenges I ran into included making AI elements of the app work as well as making calls to expired APIs, which I decided to just forego, but eventually, the API was republished, so the app works fine now. Additionally, detection of darkmode was an issue as first, but I fixed it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Accomplishments I'm proud of include making a good project that truly works, but I'm probably most proud of the progression of the app throughout the stages of development.

What we learned

I learned how to make API calls, and utilize NoSQL databases and OAuth in applications.
