Inspiration

We were inspired by the challenges we face as high school students, namely stress. Having to balance the constant pressures of difficult course loads and extracurriculars can put mental health at risk. As a result, we wanted to create a solution to help students like us relieve stress, which ultimately boosts academic performance, self-esteem, ability to maintain healthy relationships, and much more.

What it does

Our project, StressAway, is a website designed to support users' mental well-being through various tools, including a planner for tackling procrastination, a forum to connect with others, a break space to recharge, and even a virtual buddy to vent to. These features enable users to calm their nerves and refocus.

How we built it

We built StressAway using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We initially built it on VSCode, then switched to Glitch.

Challenges we ran into

Because we are beginners, we were not very experienced and had to learn along the way, utilizing online tutorials and ChatGPT to help us code and debug. A challenge we faced was setting up Firebase for the forum, but we eventually got it to work. We also struggled to add our own images to the website due to a problem uploading assets to Glitch. However, we fixed this problem by uploading our assets elsewhere.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to build a complete website despite not having a lot of coding experience. We are proud of the many different features we were able to create, and of how we were able to work together to quickly get things done. We were able to overcome obstacles like switching to a new platform halfway through and we persevered.

What we learned

We learned more about the capabilities of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, including implementing Firebase into our website and using APIs to get data. We learned that ChatGPT is a very helpful resource for generating and debugging code and discovered how to leverage it responsibly.

What's next for StressAway

We hope to add more features in the future, such as a mood tracker and sleep tracker. Once we become more advanced, we can train an AI model to recognize patterns from the trackers to create a personalized experience with unique recommendations for healthy habits. We'd also like to work on the scaling of our website so it has improved mobile functionality.
