Inspiration
Smartphones and smartwatches are ubiquitous today, and the health-related data they collect can be invaluable in prevention and early-detection of medical conditions. Chronic stress is a growing problem today, particularly dangerous because of how serious its effects can be and how often it goes entirely unnoticed. This is our effort to bring attention to the problem and address it, by making the solution as accessible as the click of a button.
What it does
Using data collected from phones and wearable technology like smartwatches, our app identifies and informs users of high levels of stress. It then addresses the situation by connecting the user to Hume's empathetic AI, which mitigates stress by guiding the user through breathing exercises and grounding techniques, and engaging with the user.
How we built it
We used random forest classifiers and public datasets to identify stress levels. We used Xcode/Swift for the app and Hume AI's API for the empathetic AI chat.
Challenges we ran into
Finding robust datasets; integrating Hume AI into our app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
How far we've come! We couldn't finish implementing all the functionality that we wanted, but we came a long way in a short period of time.
What we learned
How to integrate technologies across different platforms.
What's next for Stress Penguin
More testing, implementing more functionality such as more sophisticated and varied stress relief techniques, and integrating real-time health data from Apple Health.
