Inspiration

"97% of the fans never set a foot in the arena." said Daniel, VP of Tech in GWS. And as a fan, I want to feel like I belong to the Dub Nation and live the 'be greater' spirit in my everyday life, not just in the Arena. We thought it'd be fun to allow fans to compete with each other with their own training and learning whether it's the game day or not.

What it does

'Strength In Numbers' is a fan engagement app where Fans can compete with other fan base as one team with their own daily data from wearables and generate personalized contents.

How we built it

  1. Interview and design what's needed for before / during / after the game for the Dub Nation
  2. Create Onboarding UX to get a player profile, challenges, and contents around it
  3. Connect Wearables data into the App for live heart rate / steps update (more to come!)
  4. Generate personalized Highlight Game Moment video matching with the users's maximum heart rate!

Challenges we ran into

  1. We wanted to do a generate a player profile with jersey with Diffusion models. It gave a random basketball uniform with overly masculine figures lol
  2. We had so much ideas.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  1. Brining Wearables data in live! We actually sync user's data in live to make the competition more engaging.
  2. Highlight video content generation with ML!
  3. Generate each fan's player card with their selfie
  4. Being able to take the initial challenges highlighted by Daniel Brusilovsky and turn them into a real app

What we learned

  1. "Always learning and improving IS IN OUR DNA. ... and We're fans of that culture, not just the game play.
  2. Communication with the users(GSW staff team included) and within the hackathon team is crucial in building something meaningful for the community

What's next for Strength In Numbers

  1. Live competition test with Apple watch with fans
  2. Reward system / More content auto generation etc
  3. Gamified onboarding as if you're drafted to the team and competing
