In time of general quarantine, we see that having centralized food access is no more a valid solution and as a pandemic touches everyone, we might not be able to count on importation anymore as well. This is why a solution to tackle both these problems is to turn to local producers.
We have seen an incredible increase in interest at different vegetable growers during this period. Hence, we think it is the right time to bring them visibility and give tools to help local producers develop their business.
What it does
This application allows you to find all your products (fruits, vegetables, meat, bread, etc.) in your area and to order them directly to the local producers around you.
In the Covid-19 crisis, our solution would help to avoid a shortage in supermarkets and a high concentration of people in such places. Moreover, it will help small businesses in keeping clients and finding new ones!
After the crisis, our app will still be useful to shorten distribution circuits between producers and consumers, offering higher margins to producers without impacting their clients. We also hope to reduce pressure on the environment by helping people to eat more local and seasonal food.
Our video pitch describes the whole concept, available on YouTube.
Moreover, we made a video demo to show what we have in mind!
How we built it
We first went through a long brainstorming phase trying to understand what would be the best way to bring together customers and local producers.
After that, we split the team into different subgroups to achieve the goals we set. Part of the group was responsible for working on the prototype of the application, while the others focused on improving the image and the communication around the product.
What's next for the project?
The LauzHack Against COVID-19 hackathon was a great experience to design a project with a low fidelity prototype. However, to pursue the project, we will now look for ground knowledge by talking to local producers in our area to better understand how they work, what their needs are and to assess the relevance of our application for them. At the same time, we will also look for feedback from potential customers to gauge how well such an application would fit into their lifestyle.
After gathering enough insights, we will work on the development of the mobile application and seek more specific feedback to improve it.
On this purpose, feel free to contact us directly on this devpost page if you have any feedback or advice!
