Inspiration

Cleanliness is a major factor in public health and city image. Overflowing bins, littered streets, and delayed waste collection affect everyone. We wanted to build a smart, tech-driven solution that makes hygiene management easier, faster, and more efficient for communities and municipalities.

What it does

The Street Hygiene Management System helps monitor and manage street cleanliness using:

Smart bin status tracking (filled/empty)

GPS-based waste collection routes

Report-a-spot feature for citizens to report dirty areas

Dashboard for authorities to see live cleanliness status

Automated alerts for cleaning teams when action is needed

How we built it

The Street Hygiene Management System helps monitor and manage street cleanliness using:

Smart bin status tracking (filled/empty)

GPS-based waste collection routes

Report-a-spot feature for citizens to report dirty areas

Dashboard for authorities to see live cleanliness status

Automated alerts for cleaning teams when action is needed

Challenges we ran into

Getting accurate bin-level detection

Setting up real-time GPS tracking

Integrating mapping with the backend

Ensuring reports from users are verified and not spam

Coordinating data between multiple modules (mobile, dashboard, backend)

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully built a working prototype

Achieved real-time tracking and status updates

Clean UI dashboard for authorities

Efficient route optimization for waste collectors

Easy reporting flow for citizens

What we learned

How impactful urban-tech solutions can be

Integrating multiple systems (IoT, backend, UI)

Handling real-time data with minimal lag

How to plan a system that works at city scale

Collaboration and time-management during development

What's next for Street Hygiene Management System

Adding AI-powered litter detection using camera feeds

Integrating low-cost IoT sensors in dustbins

Expanding to public toilet cleanliness monitoring

Creating analytics reports for local authorities

Scaling to handle larger city areas
