Inspiration

Over the last two decades, number of secular people in America grew by 15% and many Americans are left without a large community to do volunteering and other group activities with.

What it does

Our app, Street Cred, encourages people to organize and attend community events that include volunteering and other activities within an auto-community around you.

It reinforces participation with a point system for attending and hosting events. We were inspired by apps like Duolingo and Forest for their gamified elements that bring people back for more. We also encourage engagement with monthly leaderboards (not implemented), achievements, and push notifications.

How we built it

Split up tasks into frontend, backend, middleware, and devops. Worked together (and had fun together) to build a cohesive app. Lots of good communication was involved along the process

Challenges we ran into

Hosting difficulties to do the dev ops implementation and having auto rebuild, ended up using a raspberry pi. Cross origin api requests caused issues. Time management.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Had a fun time making the application with a great group of cooperative programmers.

What we learned

Fully polished applications can be difficult to create under such a short time restraint.

What's next for Street Cred

Continue working on not yet implemented functions and finalize the end product.
