sTrEATs Live

StrEATs Live is a real-time street food discovery platform built on Google Maps that connects vendors and customers. Vendors can mark their live location, update menus, and broadcast to customers.

Inspiration

The idea for sTrEATs Live was born when I saw the viral success of a New York dosa truck on social media. When I visited New York, my local friends raved about other amazing food trucks I had no clue about. In India, legendary street food carts often sell out in an hour, but finding them relies on landmarks and word of mouth. There was no unified platform to make these vendors visible. I realized a Google Maps-powered app could bridge this gap, making street food discovery easy, transparent, and real-time.

What it does

Displays real-time food truck/ push carts locations on Google Maps. Vendors can mark their spot and broadcast open hours. Vendors manage dynamic menus via a simple dashboard. Customers can view menus, pre-order food, and leave reviews. Smart notifications alert users when: A favorite vendor goes live nearby Integrated ordering & payment to reduce wait times.

How we built it

I integrated Google Maps Platform with custom-stylized map markers to represent live food trucks and street carts. Each vendor can update their location in real time, and when a user clicks a vendor card, the corresponding marker on Google Maps appears with a pop-up, showing details like menu highlights, ETA, and open hours. The app was designed with a cohesive UI and intuitive UX, tailored for street food lovers, using Google Maps APIs (Maps JavaScript API) to make food exploration real-time and interactive.

Challenges we ran into

One major challenge was handling different vendor states, such as "Moving", "Live Now", and "Closed", and ensuring smooth real-time updates on Google Maps. Simulating real-time movement of trucks without GPS hardware integration was tricky.

What's next for sTrEATs Live

Native Language Support Implement multi-language UI and AI-powered voice interactions. AI-Powered Queue Prediction Use computer vision + geofencing to estimate the number of people in line and predict wait times for faster decision-making. AR Experience Click a vendor → AR Mode activates: 3D Cart appears in your real space. Animated aroma waves rise from the cart. Floating food icons (samosa, dosa, pav bhaji, momos) rotate around. Tap icons to: Learn the dish name + short cultural story. View price & spice level. Example: Samosa – Crispy triangles with spiced potatoes, an Indian favorite. QR Code Ordering Generate unique QR codes for each vendor, allowing customers to scan, view the menu, and place an order instantly without waiting in line.
