Inspiration
As people that have been brought up in urban communities, we've seen firsthand how street vendors have struggled due to their inability to connect to their consumer base.
What it does
It allows customers to easily find details about local vendors and allows vendors to establish an online presence.
How we built it
We built the mobile app through javascript, HTML, JSON, and CSS, as well as Mapbox API.
Challenges we ran into
Creating the heat map was a great learning challenge and experience. Moreover, Mapbox was a completely foreign tool to all of our team members.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It's hard to name a specific feature, but what we would consider our greatest accomplishment on the project was being able to add new vendor points which not only added data directly into the JSON file, but also enables eager entrepreneurs to put their foot in the game.
What we learned
Besides learning how to work and implement frameworks and unfamiliar languages, this has been an ultimate learning experience in the art of humility. We were constantly reminded that every line code could fail at any given time.
What's next for StrEats
The future is bright for StrEats. As an app that cares about the future of small businesses, we hope to expand on this by allowing vendors to utilize our data analytics to make informed decisions and optimize their business.
